Notes
Appin-specific public financial data is limited. The reported capex found is for the combined Appin and Tower project: $100 million, 94 MW, 94 Caterpillar G3516 generator sets, project began May 1995. The capex value here allocates that reported nominal project cost to the APPIN DUID using 55.62 MW / 94 MW; therefore capex_basis is estimated, not reported. O&M values are not generator-specific and use the AEMO/Aurecon 2024 reciprocating-engine default assumptions. Heat rate/efficiency is estimated from Caterpillar G3516-class gas generator ratings rather than Appin test data. Emissions intensity uses a third-party presentation of Clean Energy Regulator NGER facility data for Appin CSM Power Station; older public sources show different intensities, so this should be reviewed against the CER table before investment-grade use. Major refurbishment/maintenance evidence exists: EDL had a purpose-built Appin engine rebuild facility opened in 2002 and reported overhauls, and Caterpillar/World Coal reported high engine operating hours without major overhaul. Contract/closure: no explicit AEMO closure notice was found in web-search snippets; Appin/Tower recontracted for a further 18 years in 2015/2016, with contract end date shown as 2034, while the current mine owner/operator has changed since South32’s 2024 sale of Illawarra Metallurgical Coal.
